Over 50 000 Toyota Yaris cars will have to be recalled due to  a manufacturing defect in the sound insulation material under the seatbelt retractor. This sound insulator may become damaged by the gas emitted from the seatbelt tensioner in the event of a crash and could result in a fire.

Toyota South Africa said they will be contacting customers individually to bring their vechiles and have the defect corrected.
