I was watching a TV program called Medical detectives last night and I must say I got the shock of my life. Normally someone gets killed or goes missing and it is the job of those in the forensic department to search every nook and cranny in order to find who done it.

And I was ready to be mesmerised with fact and attention to detail as they sieved the murky waters of deceit and lies until they got to the end result. In most episodes, the result boggles the mind. How can a person murder someone and hope that no one will find out? These medical detectives usually give an account of the crime or case and catch the perpetrator.

It was with shock when I discovered that in this episode, it was not about a single murder or death, nor was it about a serial killer or a mad scientist.

This was about a disease that had killed 25 young people from different parts of England. And naturally the doctors wanted to find what it was and its cause. To their horror and mine it was discovered that they were suffering from a disease commonly called mad cow disease. What scared and terrified the good heavens out of me is the way the cows got the sickness in the first place, i.e. before it was passed on to humans.

In turns out that in the 80s someone got the (crazy) idea to mix cow feed with remains of, wait for it , cows and sheep and any other animal! What? Correct me if I am wrong but cows are not carnivores’ and therefore if you fed it meat it was bound to go Mad so to speak. It is not in the nature of herbivores to eat meat!

That goes against the laws of nature! A lion will never eat grass so why anyone would have a (so called brilliant) brain wave to feed cows meat? It baffles me beyond belief! In the wild a lion might kill another lion for trespassing but eating it, NEVER!! That’s what hyenas and vouchers are for?

Lucky for us that practice was banned and the cows have gone back to eating the greens and no one will have dominion to nurture cows with meat but that was not before some thousands of infected cows had to be put down and burnt.

Still I say who dares meddle with nature will get a shock of their life when nurture, takes over and rejects what is against nature.
