This is not your usual juicy kind of story. I know many of you were expecting the kind were some unfaithful better half of someone was caught red handed doing the terrible deed.

Now this one here dear friends is different. There I was walking along Orange Street in Cape Town on a warm June afternoon thinking happy thoughts because it was by many miles a better day. I am told it is always cold and gloomy in June. Today was different the sun was sunny and warm. I am walking feeling all breezy and I am counting cars as they drive past.

As I walk further down the road I see this man in a crouching position and I wonder just what it is that he had dropped and he is trying to pick up. As I moved closer to him I am shocked to see that this pants are down and he was in the process of defecating.

He did not try to run away nor was he perplexed by the fact that someone had walked in on his privacy. I was shocked to say the least when I passed him he managed to utter “I am sorry maam”.

That quite disturbed me. I was thinking how does he say he is sorry for traumatising my eyes? I briskly walked on feeling offended.

When I then sat down to think about it, I realised that here was a homeless man with no cent to his name and if he had gone to the gas station and asked to use the loo (restrooms) the people in charge would most likely have denied him.

I then asked myself the question if that man had knocked on my door would I have let him in my door and let him have the privilege of using the loo, sadly my answer was a definite NO. All in all the apology I got was good enough, I had no right feeling offended because I would not do my bit for humanity if my name was called.

That that is sad indeed!
