I have often wondered if incarcerating a person for a long period of time would really change a man. It is a proven fact that there are people who have become repeated offenders because they should not have been put in jail to begin with. I believe that there should be a system that endeavors to rehabilitate criminals before unleashing them back into society.

It does not help putting a person behind bars for five years thinking you are punishing them while in actual fact they are learning more ways of being bad. A petty thief has been known to come out of prison a robber or worse still a serial killer. What is needed is for the justice system to set up some kind of school where criminals can unlearn their bad behavior.

This should be in a very positive environment. Prison just teaches them that they are worse than the average human beings and we should not forget that they are not treated as human beings. In fact it is in prison that they learn to not value the life of another human being they come out devoid of emotions having learned nothing of value.

Does prison help?

Does prison help?

There should not be prisons at all, I believe most of the people in there are there because they had no proper guidance and maybe they were never taught to be self reliant therefore they think the world owes them something. IF someone who does not have basic education comes out of prison ten years later what good is he to society? He just adds to more criminal activity because let’s face it just because he has been in prison does not mean that he does not need to eat.

In his quest for survival he will go back to doing criminal activities because he is unskilled at anything therefore unemployable.
